About Us

The Salt Lake Choral Artists (SLCA) is one of America's premiere community choirs, continuing a tradition of superb choral singing that began as the Jay Welch Chorale more than twenty years ago. When Dr. Brady Allred was appointed as Artistic Director and Conductor in 2004, the group was reorganized to include a large concert choir of approximately 150 voices, and a women's choir and chamber choir, each approximately 50 voices strong.

The choir focuses on classical, contemporary, and culturally diverse music and enjoys collaborating with other performing groups in the community.  They have appeared with the University of Utah Singers and A Cappella Choir and the Salt Lake Symphony, and performed with Ballet West in their production of Carmina Burana.  SLCA is also dedicated to community outreach; they have worked with several local schools during their regular concert season and participated in interfaith concerts in the Salt Lake valley.  Each summer, they sponsor a Summer Choral Institute, which gives all people the opportunity to sing great choral literature without having to audition for the choir.

Dr. Allred's wealth of choral conducting experience, remarkable range of musical talent, and exceptional leadership has brought SLCA to a higher level of artistic excellence and generated new enthusiasm among choir members, serious interest from the media, and the attention of donors who recognize the importance of promoting quality performing arts in the area.

The group performs several times a year in beautiful Libby Gardner Concert Hall, located on the University of Utah campus.  In 2009, SLCA's chamber choir recorded the ensemble's first CD, He Loves Me, a compilation of the work of Utah composer David Naylor.
