SLCA ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS

Auditions for the 2016-2017 season are now open.

Procedure for auditioning for SLCA:

1) Please fill out the Audition Time Request Form below.

2) You will then be redirected to a document to sign up for an audition time.

3) Follow the instructions on the form and your time will be set. You will receive a follow-up confirmation email within 24 hours of your sign up.

Auditions are held at SLCA Building at 700 North 200 West or the SLCA Offices at 1359 East 6400 South, both in SLC.

Concert Choir

1. Please follow the directions above to schedule an audition. If you have questions, please email our audition coordinator at: auditions@saltlakechoralartists.org.

2. Please prepare a piano-accompanied solo of your own choice, preferably sostenuto. A hymn or folk song is also appropriate. The purpose of this is to hear you on music with which you feel comfortable and that will demonstrate your vocal ability. You do not need to bring an accompanist.

3. You will be asked to vocalize to check your singing range

4. You will be asked to sight-read

5. You will be asked to commit to attending all rehearsals and concerts for the entire season and agree to pay the required tuition/dues and money for concert attire. You will be asked to help sell concert tickets, recruit new members, and actively promote the SLCA organization.

6. Please fill out and bring your completed audition form.

Chamber Choir

1. Please follow the directions above to schedule an audition. If you have questions, please email our audition coordinator at: auditions@saltlakechoralartists.org.

3. Be prepared to sing the following scales a cappella: chromatic, whole-tone, harmonic minor, and major

4. You will be asked to vocalize to check your singing range

5. You will be asked to sight-read

6. Read aloud the following Latin text using Roman pronunciation:

    Jubilate Deo, omnis terra; servite Domino in laetitia.
           Introite in conspectu ejus in exultatione.
           Scitote quoniam Dominus ipse est Deus; ipse fecit nos, et non ipsi nos;
           Populus ejus, et oves pascuae ejus.

7. Read aloud the following Latin text using the rules of lyric (sung) diction:

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis.
           Te decet hymnus Deus in Zion, et tibi redetur votum in Jerusalem.
           exaudi orationem meam, ad te omnis caro veniet.

8. Be prepared to take a short theory exam that will test your musical skills:
i.e. key signatures, intervals, chord qualities, rhythm, musical notation, etc.

9. You will be asked to commit to attending all rehearsals and concerts for the entire season and agree to pay the required tuition/dues and money for concert attire. You will be asked to help sell concert tickets, recruit new members, and actively promote the SLCA organization.
