High School Retreat

2016 SLCA HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT

Monday-Wednesday, Aug 8-10, 2016
First Baptist Church / St. Ambrose Church

Come join with singers from all over the region! The SLCA High School Retreat is:
• A powerful head-start on the year.
• A great time for singers to bond.
• A source of new ideas, repertoire, & more.
• A place to energize yourself and your singers.

Last year 12 schools participated, culminating in an exciting concert. Nearly 300 students joined in a grand chorus under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred, singing repertoire that many teachers were able to use in their regular repertoire for the year.
This year we are happy to announce that Dr. Ryan Murphy, Associate Conductor for the Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be the guest conductor! You and your students are sure to have a great experience working closely with Dr. Murphy and the other faculty.

This year’s classes will help strengthen your singers. Possible topics will include:

Learn It Fast, Make It Last – Music retention, ear training, and more to improve your success in choir.
Find Your Voice – Singing with energy, balance, and beauty.
Say What? – Learning to pronounce words, diction, and IPA; How to unify and beautify choral tone.
Get Your Game Face On – The power of expression & engaging the audience during choir performance.
What’s a pencil? – Markings for all occasions! How to actually use that pencil you bring to rehearsal.
What E’re Thou Art – Choir officer leadership seminar. Learn how to set the standard for your ensemble.
Teacher Round Table – Discuss relevant topics with each other and retreat faculty.

Each day singers will attend classes, work as individual schools, and join in combined rehearsal with Dr. Murphy.
The retreat closes with a grand finale concert at the beautiful St. Ambrose Church, as schools perform for each other, then join their voices to create spectacular music!

The registration fee for this exciting retreat ($75/student) includes:
• Three days of premier choral instruction
• Music and materials
• Meals – 3 lunches, 1 dinner

Registration opens May 23, 2016. Click here to register: 2016 High School Retreat Registration Form
